Some of the smartest (and nicest) conservatives I know are Cav and fly22 and we'd be a-ok with our kid turning out like either of them!
 
I missed out on this thread somehow. Congrats to you and your wife. You'll find being a Dad is the most wonderful thing in the world, second to none. The first time he or she calls you Da Da, prepare to completely have your insides cave in on you. Enjoy!

That is what the grandparents are for! You get them to babysit!!! We live for that! Then you can still take your wife on a vaca or just have a weekend or evening alone. Just finished having both grand kids for Easter break. It was wonderful and exhausting. And if they are not nearby, you invite them for a long visit and spend time with them and some time away while they are still there. You gotta start hinting around about all the baby crap you will need too, how expensive it all is and get them shopping. Work it man, work it! lol Man, us old farts gotta teach you youngins everything.

Dude you're not joking! We went to Babies-R-Us tonight to scope out some gear for the future kiddo, and this crap ain't cheap! And that was after my wife assured me that we wouldn't go to Bye Bye Baby, which I guess is also known as, "Hey we'd you to sign over the title to your house."
 
I am telling you, all the furniture, the car seat, the clothes that they grow out of almost weekly, the mountains of diapers, it's a fricking fortune. Not to mention just all the little toiletries, bottles and food at some point and other baby crap. Have a big, big baby shower. Register somewheres like Target or Babies are Making Us Poor. Look on Ebay and Wal Mart for clothes small baby crap like booties and blankies and bibs, bath crap and diapers too and listen there is nothing wrong with 2nd hand stores for a lot of baby stuff, they again grow out of everything so fast! My eldest son and his wife are expecting their first in June and it's twins no less!! He has been working all kinds of extra flights and the whole family has been pitching in to buy baby crap. I am bankrupt now. My daughter in law is having two showers. One at work and one for friends and family. Now THAT, is working it.

My wife and sister picked two of them up at a baby Expo late last year and they are terrific. You can have the baby where ever you are in any room and they are cuddled, comfy, supported and safe. They have spare covers for them too and even a carrying case so you can take them over to someone's house when visiting. They are really terrific. You use them on the carpet or floor and not in a crib. You can put them on a couch when you are also sitting on the couch and they are not for overnight sleep....just for naps and for playing in while awake. The ones sold now are the safe and updated model and not the recalled model from 3 years ago that had a serious issue, because it was used improperly. Bed Bath and Beyond also sells them.

What a compliment! Second black man to give me such kind words, Dough is the only other black man I know.

I'm not smart nor am I a conservative anymore but Em and I are still hoping it turns out like me too!

We're excited for you guys, your kid will be smart and you guys will be great parents. Its hard work but when your little kid tells you she (or he) loves you, man nothing beats it. WIsh we were closer to celebrate with you guys.
 
Congratulations and condolences at the same time! :) At least you will get good sleep on overnights. But don't make the mistake of telling your wife about it when she was up half the night feeding and changing the baby. Just a little something I learned.
