The waiting game...

HA I was almost 11 lbs, and 24 inches long. We are having another baby girl.
Geeeez, our poor Moms. lol A Girl!!! Wonderful!!!! Man, you are going to be outnumbered!!! That won't be an issue until they are both teenagers and everybody, including your wife, is on the same cycle. Start building a man cave long before that, you are going to need one! Have you picked out a name yet? At least you should have some little girl hand me downs from the first baby. That helps with costs. How is your wife feeling? Hope she's not too uncomfortable. Congrats again!!!

Hopefully I can land myself a good job to afford that. ;) Looking forward to it though. baby #2 will be Jessica Bailey. I think my wife is just dealing with things she has been all 9mo, its just getting very old and annoying. Hopefully we will have my 2yo out of diapers soon, that is the BIG expense.

Here's a good story...since you're waiting anyway.

So I graduated college in 2006. At the time my older brother was living in Amsterdam, but his wife gave him the ok to fly out and celebrate with me. It was 5 weeks before her due date. She was completely ok with him coming to visit me. Two after graduation we were both going to get on a flight to Amsterdam where I was going to spend a few weeks before beginning work as a flight instructor.

So graduation comes and goes. My brother and I go to a Fighting Sioux game the night of graduation after a nice dinner with family. The next night my parents come with us for another game after helping me move out of my apartment. During the game via text message:

Sister in law: Water just broke, on the way to hospital!
Brother: Haha...very funny.
Sister in Law: No seriously....
Brother: #*@%!

So, he immediately calls Northwest and explains the situation to him. They say "the quickest way we can get you to Amsterdam is driving to MSP tonight, then getting on the first flight to DTW, then continuing on the first flight to AMS. He does it.

I call, hoping to be able to join him on the 3-4 hour drive in the middle of the night after a long evening including a large dinner and a few beers. Northwest says "no problem...the cost to change your ticket will be $2,358.65"

He left, I stayed. They wouldn't even let me ride to MSP with him, then wait around for my regular flight to AMS.

Thankfully after her water broke and she got to he hospital her labor just stalled. And because she was so early the doctor wasn't in any hurry to rush it. Not only was my brother able to make it out in time, but I was able to make it out there later the same day. After I met up with my sister in law in the hospital room she went into labor immediately. My beautiful niece Sophie was born a few hours later.

insert "cool story bro!" here.

My wife and sister, aka the Queens of Coupon Shopping, go to a bunch of different web sites and to the manufacturers websites and print out a ton of coupons for diapers and wet wipes (stockpiling for the upcoming grand babies) and then hit Wally Mart. (Better them than me, I hate that place. lol) But it saves a lot of money. It's hard to imagine why the heck why diapers cost as much as they do. As I mentioned to JTrain, start whining to your parents and in the inlaws about how expensive all the baby crap is and start working it to get some donations and baby stuff from them.

Nice name for the baby too!

Amazon Mom is also a nice way to go. Scheduled deliveries at your frequency. We have it timed so a new box of diapers shows up on our door step when we are down to our last half sleeve of diapers. They are cheaper than in stores, we also have a BJ's membership which we used for wipes/formula. Free shipping is awesome too as an amazon prime member.

For jars of baby food, if you want organic, Whole Foods has good deals generally 5/$4 or something, but if you buy 20 you also get a case discount. We switched to solids relatively quickly, but there was a few months where we were buying 40 at a pop and it would only last us a bit over a week. Kids can eat!!!

I know Pilotforhire knows this, but making your own baby food pays off huge. Steam up some veggies, if you boil be sure to use the water as the thinner to put the nutrients lost back in, mash and freeze in serving sizes. Works great.

Yeah, I made baby food for our baby #1. The blender scared him the first time I used it while he was playing in his jumper seat in the kitchen though! I started it up, and he looked at me with these HUGE eyes and just started crying this pathetic scared cry!

Making baby food is very easy, but it does take time & effort.

A: Wash & cut veggies into smallish pieces
B: Steam til floppy (save water used in steaming)
C: Put floppy veggies into blender, adding water from the steaming process to get to desired consistancy
D: Pour into ice cube trays for single-serving sizes
E: Freeze
F: Store in ziploc bags, take out what you need when you need it, they reheat real easy

You can do fruits also, just skip the steaming step.

I did apples, pears, bananas, squash, carrots, peas, green beans... probably more that I can't remember! (It's been 9 years...)

We belong to Amazon and had no clue about the Mom thing or the diaper and wipes thing! Thanks so much for posting that. Man, leave it to Amazon. We get some gifts on there and mostly dvds, cds and books. Need to check it out more I guess. My wife sent it along to my daughter in law in an email today. What a cool deal. Had no idea.

We got her some contraption that my wife found online for making your own baby food. Comes with a zillion of these little like mini tupperware things to hold the food after you make it and a steamer and a small blender and a bunch of other crap. Gave it to her at the baby shower and she loved it. Got her some tiny feeding bowls and tiny cups, spoons and a bunch of bibs too. I think it's a great idea to feed babies a lot of fruit and veggies, besides the cereals.
