Learning to fly....but I ain't got wings.
Just wondering if anyone has been and what it was like. I'm expecting to go within the next 6 months.

What does your description under your username mean? Rotary-wing is still wings......![]()
How much time do you get to fly?
It's a Tom Petty song. I know he says "I'm learning to fly, but I ain't got wings" It's just something I say to my husband...
Its around an hour depending on the schedule and pilot. I think I flew 1.3 when I went. We went out over the shipyard on the coast to do some EPs then back to the airport. That shipyard was huge, awesome sight to see!
Oh cool! Old school 80s Petty! Very nicely done.
Oh that's great! Way more time than I expected. I thought the flight would be a half hour or so. The course only costs $400, so I couldn't emagime getting much flight time out of it.
It really is a great value for what you get. Its nice to be in a brand new helicopter too! The Beta II I flew had just over 11 hrs on it. I'm not sure if they still do it but if you pack so your bag will fit under the seat in a R-44 they will give you a free shuttle flight to LAX on the last day of the the course. Its cool arriving in style to LAX.![]()
Would you recommend flying the 22 or the 44? If and when I instruct in a RW, it will primarily be in the 22. My goal is to instruct primarily in FW, but who knows what the future holds. I've done EP's in the 22 and the 44 and what a difference between the two. No one was joking when they said "if you can fly a R-22 you can fly just about any helicopter".
It would be pretty cool to be shuttled into LAX, especially as a low time pilot. I'm driving in though, I live only a couple hours away.
Old topic, I know...but, the RSC is not only for CFI's or CFI candidates. All you need is PPL to attend. Though true, that most of the time is it guys/gals who are just completing (or about to complete) their CFI/CFII.
It's been almost 9 months...made it to the course yet?
