Recent Transpac Interviewees?

I see there are King Air's in the fleet. Would my KA B200 time help in getting me there?

That's only the high performance base in Glendale, students go there after getting their commercial ticket at deer valley. You could definitely apply for that slot, from what I've heard they prefer previous 121 employment and time in type. As far as an instructing gig at Deer Valley I don't think it hurts but they are separate jobs.

The clarity about the bonus system is about the only gripe I have. I'm still pretty unclear how it works exactly and I've asked numerous people about it. I'm just working hard and hoping it pays off. I'll be using the bonus money on my MEI, so I'm not all that worried about it. I just wish it was more transparent is all.

I'm not counting on receiving any bonus, and if I do I will be thrilled. A lot of the factors that go into the bonus are beyond your control, mostly because your students will routinely be scheduled to fly with other instructors, some of whom do their best job, while others couldn't care less about your students or your bonus and simply go out and burn hours. Ive had instructors go out and not do any of the ground reference maneuvers on the missions because it "was too windy." Many instructors have fresh CFI tickets and hesitate to let the students land the airplane, which drags out the learning curve.

You may also draw superstar students who study hard, or lazy d bags with an attitude problem. And if you are simply not scheduled for a lot of missions (# of missions completed is 25% of the bonus), it is hard to compete for a bonus with instructors who do. Those who max out are flying 130+ missions a month, and I am scheduled for roughly 80 a month.

But as far as CFI jobs go it is probably one of the best in terms of pay, flight hours, and days off (always 2 in a row).
