Pilot and A Half (for now
Hubby wanted to get a puppy so when we have a baby he'll have one to play with. He wanted something small and furry. I convinced him today that this would be better. ;) He named him Max. I love his spots. He's a bit shy, but warming up quickly. He wasn't too sure about carpet or grass, but is doing good now.

I think it's some sort of hairless breed, but I have no idea what. Lo0ks like he could use one of these though:

I'm sorry, if I woke up and saw that thing beside my bed, I might just kick it. Then again, my neighbor that has a little white fluffy yapper, and I want to kick that dog irregardless. As some pointed out though, if I kick that dog, I might just get hair. Your dog on the other hand, might win prizes at :http://www.ugliestdogcontest.com/

Maybe it is just me, but having a pet and a baby is a terrible combination. I don't mean to be Debbie Downer, just giving an honest opinion. Children are very time intensive, especially infants. Anytime you currently have for the animals will quickly be taken up by the child.

We have cats and even though they are very low maintenance, they are still a hassle. After working all day, coming home spending time with her, making dinner, cleaning up, giving her a bath, going to the gym and finally settling down around 11, the last thing I want to hear are cats meowing for food, wanting to be pet, needing new litter or having to clean up a hair ball. Maybe I am just a selfish bastard, but I enjoy a bit of me time and I don't care to have them on me wanting me to do stuff for them.

He's a Chinese Crested hairless, not shaved. ;) They are really great dogs. He's doing pretty well about going outside now. :) As far as babies and pets, my husband should be working from home (most of the time) in the next month or so and will help and I will probably stay home full time.

Stupid animals.....what the hell are they thinking, meowing for food or needing anything?

If animals and kids don't go together, then why do you have both? :)

I think sometimes (and that's sometimes, not always) animals and babies don't mix well. Babies are incredibly needy and sometimes animals get jealous. (Again, that is a SOMETIMES statement, not an always statement.) However, I think that animals and KIDS can do just fine together. The kids give the animals playtime, activity & affection, and the animals give the kids something to play fetch with, and can teach responsibility in feeding & care and empathy in treating other creatures nicely.

That is why I carefully considered breeds and didn't just pick one that was cute. We saw a darling long haired chihuahua, but I said no way. I picked a Crested because I know they will let babies/ kids pull on their ears, hair, tail, etc. without snapping at them.

We had dogs the entire time that we had kids, even before they were born. Also had a small assortment of other critters when they were young like fish, hamsters, cats, a bunny, frogs, turtles, ant farm, guinea pigs, birds, you name it. Had the same as pets when I grew up. There are pics of my brother and my sister and me as babies with our Bull Mastiff, our Brittany Spaniel and Standard Poodle and my mom's cats. My son has two dogs and two cats and they are expecting. My daughter with my two grand kids and her hubby have two dogs, two cats, birds and a chinchilla. My whole family has various pets and it's a damn farm over here at my place.

Having pets teaches kids so much. It teaches them to be kind, gentle and patient and to share. It teaches them responsibility and about schedules and routines. It teaches them empathy and understanding of others who are different from them and how to communicate with them. It gives them a living being that gives them unconditional love, even when they are "bad", it doesn't judge them, is always glad to see them and be with them and who can be their confidant. They always have someone to play with. It teaches them about life and about death and illness but they also learn that love, lives on forever. The bond that children have with their pets is very special.

I have never minded the maintenance and care that animals require. It is so little of my time compared to the endless amount of love and happiness that they bring into our lives. It's my fortunate privilege to do these simple tasks for them.

Actually I've found clothes irritate their skin (but then I do live in Florida) and sunscreen causes them to break out, so I don't use it unless absolutely required. I had a totally pink dog once that didn't even need it, I just limited when and for how long she would go out in the sun.

HA HA Well, the feeding part was sort of in jest. I am not cruel to them. But they do beg for food even if they have a full bowl or food and water plus some wet food remaining.

The cats were there first, they are on the old side so we can't give them away and I am not going to have them put down.

Congrats on the new addition, I wasnt trying to be a downer, just giving you my perspective on the matter. Obviously many people have pets and children and love it.

our cats do the same thing...even if the food/water dishes are full, they're still lil' beggars :)
