We are sitting here waiting for the shuttle to the airport right now, and I just wanted to post a quick note to tell everyone that we had a wonderful time this weekend!! We are definitely worn out, ready for home. What a blast though. It was a pleasure to meet some new folks who will be good friends for a long time, as well as seeing old friends again! I think many will agree that the main event this year was definitely very classy and also much more conducive to mingling. I only wish more of us lived closer to one another that would allow more time to hang out and develop our friendships... at least we have to board to chat often.

Hope everyone makes it home safe! Again, a sincere pleasure to meet you all and a pleasure to see old friends! Hope to see you all again soon!

Anyone on the site that is anywhere close to regional minimums that misses a n NJC needs his head checked.

Mock interviews (which were spot-on what I saw at Skyway and SouthernJets Innanashnul)...

Tower tours...

Allegiant airline tours...

Meeting people with both the desire and ability to help you...

I'm not sure how else to market it but it's darned near a hiring event in a lounge atmosphere, unpretentious and fun as hell.

You gotta make it.

•  Doug Taylor

Yes, a TON of thanks to (on top of the Taylors) MPenguin, FlyChicago, jdflight, BobDDuck, and others that made this happen!

•  Complexhiav8r

There is at least one guy getting a job out of coming to NJC 2006 this year, and all he had to do was drop one name to me and he was in.

This website will make your career. It sounds hokey, but it's true.

•  Jtrain609

I tell ya... I had a great time at Friday's event! I only wish I had more time and less family obligations so I could have done the 9FI, tower tours, Saturday stuff, and all that. I feel I missed out on a lot.

But it was great meeting everyone... you get this picture in your head about how everyone will be based off their online persona and real life is just totally different.

Kristie and Doug, thanks for an awesome event.

•  Chinookdriver

Like you always say it's all about who you know and networking, networking, networking!!!

•  Maximillian_Jenius

It was a blast! Highly recommend it!........heck, it's a tax write-off to boot!

•  Cruise

Win and I are just about to check out of our hotel and head for LAS . . . We have 29 seats open over four flights, so hopefully it will work out easily. We had so much fun with everyone. Thanks to Doug and Kristie for keeping it so cool in their living room. I have never seen such a compatible group of people. Amazing!

We feel as if we have made new lifetime friends . . . again!

• Bumblebee

This website has been invaluable to me in my progression in fulfilling my dream of becoming a pilot. It is good to have an awesome network of people that I can go to when I need help.

I don't care if you have 10,000 hours with 8000 hours of Turbine Pilot in Command time. You need to KNOW someone to get that dream job of yours. It is such a competitive marketplace with pilots it is important that us on jetcareers help one another get the jobs we want.

Why do you think the majors hiring have such 'low minimums'? It is because they want those there to bring in the ones they want to fill the open spots.

Anyone who values their career, should make every effort to save all they can to make it to Vegas.

•  Seggy

And yeah that to everything you wrote. I joined last Jan, and attended my first ever NJC in October. I'll be there for years to come. And this year, I won't be so damn time-limited and so damn tired, I promise!

I can't even begin to list everything joining this site has done for me, education-wise, AND career-wise.

•  Chinookdriver

There's no reason not to get out there and network and honestly, between Doug and I, there's no reason we can't provide you with the opportunity...so that's what we're doing.

In fact, we're adding two (2) new NetworkJC functions this year to make it easier for everyone to attend.

Sometime between March and May/June we'll be hosting NetworkJC Chicago... In September we'll be hosting NetworkJC Stuttgart and October the Annual NetworkJC Event in Vegas.

So, plan on getting your butts off the chair, away from the keyboard for at least one of these weekends and network your pants off...Meet the person you could be sitting right seat with in the future...Meet the person who could essentially be your foot in the door! (hey, there's our new 2007 slogan! )

It's been proven that this opportunity can guarantee a career and we're not pulling crap out of our asses like those flight academies out there who guarantee an interview but not a job (nor do we charge an arm and a leg to attend)...our events have proven that you can get along with those guys you argue with in the lav.. not only that, but that person can probably walk your resume in and get you the opportunity of a lifetime... the opportunity you NEED to reach that cloud 9 dream you've always had.

•  Kristie

If there has been a single constant throughout my aviation career it has been this website. When I first started as a student, I was constantly asking questions, reading other peoples input and utilizing the vast knowledge base this forum provides. I got my first real CFI job through a job listing post that a JC member listed. (who now is a good friend of mine and is at the same airline as I am)

I got the opportunity to spend a few days in Las Vegas on a JC users buddy pass, and was able to put a face to the user names I saw so often on here. ( I am one of the few that knows what Eagle actually looks like.)

One of the strongest and most important messages I learned early on was the importance of networking in this industry. It has been proven to me several times in my career already and this website has provided opportunities to myself and many others that may not of been attainable had it not been for the contacts and interactions that happen here daily.

•  Rausda27

I have made some great friends and awesome connections through this site. You would have to be insane to not make it to Network JC if you have the hours and are looking for a job.

•  Montanapilot

NJC can get you a job.

I arrived to NJC 07 like a super star i.e. fashionable late. Everyone came around to me and greeted me. Then outa the corner of my eye I see this large 6'4" 200-something pound football player build guy come up to me.

"Max,are you a freaking pilot dude? Are you flying yet?" He is like right there in front me me drawfing my 5'8" frame.

No,I respond. Well you need to ####ing get off your ass and do it. And keep me abreast of your training and when you have the times or hell, don't think you meet the mins. You let me know and I'll walk your app into Colgan myself.

It was funny at the time. But I think,no I know that the guy is totally serious.

Likewise with XJT, PCL, SKYW etc. These people know me and maybe will help me get a job next year. Make NJC a priority, you'll be happy that you did!

•  Maximillian_Jenius

There are no "outsiders" here on JC - we're all here for the same reasons.

When you hang out with JC'ers, you'll never have to worry about "fitting in". I've not met a cooler group of people in my life (my fellow Gunfighters in G-2/7 excepted).

In the summer of '05, I mentioned that I was going to be flying a Twin Comanche from New Mexico back to Nashville, and that if anybody in Texas wanted to get together with myself and one of my students, I was game. We had a JC member open his home to a bunch of "internet friends", and he hosted a wonderful cook-out. I'm always amazed at how great these people can be.

I've been offered jobs, beds to sleep in, beer to drink, and lots of other things. I've done shots with JTrain, walked the streets of Vegas with Jep, drank beer with Seggy, and played slots with Mike D. Does it mean we're a "clique"?? Not at all - it means that we all made an effort to get out there and meet one another.

I can't say enough about the members here. They're simply awesome.

•  mtsu_av8er

There are a couple things about NJC

Networking
Networking is not something you start to do before you a looking for a job to get a job - it is an ongoing process throughout your career. When you are a student pilot, networking with a CFI might allow to sit in the back on someone else's lesson, or if he is ferrying an airplane, maintaining currency, etc invite you along. You might get an opportunity to sit in an empty leg on a corporate jet. You might think this is a big deal, for these guys it is like you getting into their new car and taking you for a spin - they want to show off their toy! You might be lucky enough to meet MikeD, I can think of no better way to impress your gf than taking her to an airshow, watching the Stealth fly and nonchalantly drop that you know that guy who is flying it. Later take her to the roped off section, where Mike happily leads you passed the armed guard and proceeds to give you and your girl a private guided tour of the airplane - while everyone outside thinks who the hell is that lucky bastard!!! These are all opportunities you can easily get on JC before you even have your private, and I am sure there are many many more.

The People
Pilots are an incredibly friendly, welcoming group of guys. You do not need any qualifications to fit into this group of guys - even if you are still reviewing flight schools you are welcome and will fit in. People like Doug, other major airline pilots, CFIs you name it will happily talk to you about choosing a flight school, what plane you should learn on, how to pick an instructor, airsickness, etc. And you will be able to listen to an instrument pilots, the next stage up, ask questions important to them, all the way up to Doug talking to someone like Don about the 757/767.

I remember when I wanted to be a pilot I used to always go to the airport to pick up my father and introduce myself to as many pilots as possible - there is no better place than NJC to really make connection, ask these questions, and have fun.

There is an old saying - The easiest wasy to achieve something is hang out with people that have done so already - no better place than NJC for that!

•  I_Money

I'll keep my JC accolades short and sweet: If you're looking to get into aviation or need a hookup with a job, do yourself a favor and get to a M&G or NJC. Seriously. The people I met at NJC '06 were really, really cool and extremely helpful (and a lot of fun to hang out with).

Wanted to say thanks to Doug and Kristie and to say it was awesome meeting everyone whom I'd nver met before. It was a blast! Any and all have a spot on the couch next time you're through town!

Now it's back to trying to learn checklists and flows! Looks liek another couple weeks befroe I get the sim.

•  Pilot602

Let's see, from the Thursday night pre-event kickoff dinner, to hiking in the desert where we saw maybe four other people the whole time, to the craziness at Nine Fine Irishmen, to the sim sessions, to the reception and the madness in the hot tub, wow.

You people are the bomb diggity!

•  TonyW

Just wanted to say "THANK you" for making NJC a worthwhile effort (on my part)!!! and Thanks to those of you who pitched in and helped me out!!! I couldn't have done it without ya'll!!

I, again, had a really REALLY awesome time!! Loved seeing all of the friends I'd met in previous years and especially loved meeting our new friends...It's always so much fun to put a face to a name AND get a little rowdy!!! We had a ton of laff's and a few "OMG, don't make me cry, man"....but overall, man.. there's just nothing better!! I can't imagine how we're going to one up for next year!

Every single one of ya is good peeps, the type of peeps where "of course, I've got time for you, whatcha need?" is always in the phrase book! Those type of friends are really hard to find!!

and honestly, it was such a pleasure to meet both Jim (C650CPT) and Don (DE727UPS)...ya both are tops in my book!

Coming back home with a sense of accomplishment and knowing that we've made more "lifelong" friends as well as making sure they ALSO made "lifelong" friends makes putting NJC together TOTALLY worthwhile - and yes, we're already talking 2006 Ski Trip, 2006 NJC & starting up a couple of informal regional NJC's (psst - so we can see ya'll more often!)...so keep tuning in!

People that were sorely missed, were talked about often enough that they *should* have had chills the entire weekend (Ophir, MikeD, LindseyV, Bumblebee, Aloft and so forth)!! Haha

but a couple of things:

•  I didn't get too tired of all the "flying" talk - YAY!

...however...

2) I think i'll have to stick to O'Douls Amber next year completely (anyone else with me? Joe/Asher??)!! I'm still recouping from Friday nights overimbibing & staying up till dawn.. as well as Sat nights "up till dawn, again" escapade!!

3) everything not PG-13 related is going over to JC After Dark (with captions!)!! no worries bout that! HAHA If you have any photos you want to submit, email, FTP or send us a CD

AND a big THANKS to the guys who got thrown in the jacuzzi - for being good sports! ya'll win the "best at taking it with a grain of salt" award!

-      Kristie

I say kudos to the wives & girlfriends that attended the event, all had a great sense of humor and wonderful personalities, espcially with Matthew running around trying to conduct a manual mammogram.

Had a blast seeing members for the first time & meeting up with people I met last year.

This year, the group as a whole just seemed to click quite smoothly, everybody was chatting it up quite effortlessly, even though they had met for the first time.

•  Mpenguin1

I just got home from the long trip back from Vegas. Wow, what a trip that was. Words can't describe! Seriously, everyone at JC were the coolest people I have ever met! There was not one uncool person there the whole weekend. I am still amazed at how we all could get together and act like best friends who haven't seen each other in a while, when we just met. It's a special thing. The weekend was very fun, and out of control! Too much fun!!! The hiking, the sim, the parties, the dinners, and most importantly just chilling out and talking to you all. Good times!

It was funny, I was in the jumpseat on mainline coming home, and the crew asked about the NJC and what not. The FO says, "Wow, lots of pilots, booze, Vegas. That could be trouble." I just looked at him, laughed, and said "With a capital T."

You guys seriously all rock!! CAN'T WAIT for next year!!

•  Flychicaga

Words can't even describe!

It was really great meeting you all! What...a....blast! I'm definitely counting down the days until next year!

My poor Docs weigh a ton because they're still wet, and I sold my dryer last week. Doh!

I have a third ass cheek, courtesy of that fall I took when John and I were coming after you, jd. All I have to say is, "ouch."

The best part? The pictures on my SD card, SURVIVED! All 152 of them! Muhahahha...

Don't worry Emily, I won't post them all!

And to Doug and Kristie- THANK YOU SO MUCH for all your work and effort in organizing this! You guys rock!

•  Eatsleepfly

It can't be said enough, but what a Blast indeed.

- From hiking in the desert,

- to 9FI and Coyote Ugly (Lines?? We don't wait in no stinking lines!)

- to the Sim (Thanks a Million Pengy and JD for the instruction )

- to the NJC event at the MGM (tons of pics, but will post them tonight while at work, who doesn't want their mug on the net? )

- To each and everyone I met, truly an amazing group of people!

- And last but not least, Doug and Kristie, for making it all happen.

Time to start saving for next year!

•  JEP

We just make sure the lights stay on and the water bill gets paid, man! Jetcareers is all about the people, bro!

All of that doe-eyed "OH MY GOD, (name) IS HERE!!" is the real deal as I'm ecstatic to see each and every one of you!

That's our brand of networking. Developing a diverse web of people that don't simply have the ability to help one another, they WANT to help one another.

•  Doug Taylor

Ya thanks again, it was truly awesome.

At first Asher was like " what we are going to meet a bunch of pilots from the web"

she thought it was going to be wierd but at the end she thought it was so cool.

Thanks again Taylors

2004/2003 Comments

well since I havent posted my thoughts on the weekend here goes.

I must say I had one hell of a kickass weekend. Met Tony at midnight at the airport. Then tony got a message from Doug and Kristie so we met up with em and played craps till 3 in the mornin.

Friday was spent doin a little gamblin and everybody rolled into town. Went to 9 Fine Irishmen. Doug ended up gettin us hooked up for 100 bucks cover for the whole group.

MikeD is indeed a badass. When he gets bored he just uses his Stealth's aiming system to check out Doug's yard to make sure he has mowed and kept the place up from 40,000 feet that is.

Saturday the Networking event was awesome made lots of contacts and was able to put a face to lots of the users. The strip club was a kickass time and Iain was a true player indeed (or was it Andrew Jackson that was doin the playin?). Nah. Got to chill with Ed, E-N, Omar, MissedApproach at the club and I must say E-N does have a way with the Ladies, random stippers came up and kissed and hugged him constantly. E-N got us hooked up with the VIP room and was pretty much the center of attention during our family friendly outing.

I must say JD flight has some mad skills. We were chillin at the Island Bar in Mandalay checking out hot chicks when JD points to one and all of the sudden 20minutes later he's mackin like nobodys business. True skills I must say.

Of course Seggy is worthy of a nomiation for Szulka award too. He got approached by a bachlorette party needing some "help".

Rollin with the Vegas JC crowd definatly gave this Montana boy an education. So me and Dougie T were orderin up some drinks at the Island bar and we had stand next to some ugly ass old "women". All of the sudden one starts talkin in the deep voice boisterous enough to scare small children. Dougs all like "dude did you hear that man, shes a man" So of course we had to summon the rest of the group to witness the spectacle. -Best Austin Powers voice "She's a man baby!"-

I must say the "who can talk a hooker down to the lowest price at 5AM" was absolutely hilarious.

The funniest/most outrageous comment had to have been "Dude my mom is like a MILF!"

Just wanted to say how impressed I am with the qualtiy of people this site attracts. Big thanks out to Doug and Kristie, events like this make it worth all the BS they have to put up with moderating peoples pissy "but mommy he called me a poopy head" type childish blow ups. Or our favorite "Delete all my posts, farewell cruel website good bye posts"

Couldnt ask for more. The hotel and meeting area were great + affordable for us young'uns.

Y'all can count on me bein at the 2005 event.

•  Montanapilot

To everyone who attended NetworkJC and to every member of the Jetcareers community, Kristie and I would like to say THANK YOU!

It was absolutely fantastic meeting everyone over the weekend and I can say with great certainty that this website has the best users on the internet.

The depth of brotherhood (and sisterhood!) that you guys displayed absolutely knocked my socks off!

You guys ROCK!

Thank You!

Thank You!

Thank You!

•  Doug Taylor

Yeah this weekend was awesome. Although Ed and I were only there for 16 hours, we had an awesome time. Meeting everyone, hanging out, etc was awesome. The JC posse is awesome, I can honestly say some of the users that were on the badges I did not recognize, but everyone was very friendly, and was there to have a good time.

I would like to thank Doug, Kristie, and Mike for organizing it. I did not realize the extent they were going to for this function until I was there, and I was floored by the JC goodie bags, the Alteon stuff, and all the set up.

•  I_Money

Thank you to you, Kristie, and all who made it NJC happen. It was a lot of fun and will definitely be back next year. Kudos to all.

•  Flyingfish

Awwww, if it wasent for your blood, sweat and tears this website wouldnt have been possible in the first place, again Thank you Mrs and Mrs. Taylor, for making this awsome.

•  Captainchris87

Thanks for putting this together Doug and Kristie, Mike and everyone else who came. It was great meeting you guys and gals; I had an awesome time. Except for the part about my car breaking down on the way home. I think it's dead...But hell at least it stuck it through until the 909, could have been hitchiking in the middle of the Mojave

•  E_Dawg

Vegas itself was fun but the people made it amazing. You guys are all welcome to a good dinner at my place if you ever come through DTW. and one at John's if you happen to fly to GRR or AZO.

•  Theshortone

A HUGE thank you to Doug and Kristie for putting this together!

It was a great experience for me to meet and network all you fine people out there!

I can't wait for the next one!

•  Seggy

The trip was awesome. I'm more of a fly on the wall type guy and stay pretty quiet (sorry all), but that was by far the most entertaining weekend ever. Coming from Utah I don't get to see that everyday.

Doug, Krisite, everyone that donated/chipped in, you rock. There wasn't a person there I wouldn't want to sit in the cockpit with.

If you go out with jd and Tony take notes, they're true pimps. jd's gotta get the Szluka. Tony, you were home free at the end if it wasn't for five-0 stepping in.

I left straight from the bar to the airport, to DFW and I still won't be home for 2 more weeks. But at least I've got my memories of the 2 transvestites at Mandalay to keep me warm at night.

•  Willnotfly4food

Hey, Hey party people. Vegas rocked. I met up with some pretty cool people. It was really great to put a face to all of the people. Doug, Kristie, and all invilved put on one heck of a shindig. Much congrats go out to all involved. I am sitting at the apt in LAS waiting for my ride home. And the free wi-fi connection is courtesy of Mccarran (sp?) apt. Free internet is great.
